After more than 100 years, live theatre is returning to the historic Howell Opera House stage!
Be part of this incredible moment as we launch our 2026 Theatre Season, beginning with:

Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance (1879)

This light-hearted, fast-paced operetta will be our first fully produced show in over a century, brought to life by local talent and the Livingston Arts Council. Join us in making history!

Application

We are presenting the original 1879 version of The Pirates of Penzance, rather than the later Broadway adaptation, to honor the authenticity and history of the period.

This historically faithful production will take place on the Howell Opera House’s original 1881 stage, offering a once-in-a-lifetime experience for both cast and audience.

The story and music remain true to the classic, but the design brings a fresh and modern perspective.

The production will feature simple, imaginative sets that highlight the Opera House’s beautiful architecture, rich acoustics, and the timeless magic of the historic space.
