“CULTURA” - A Celebration of Culture through Music, Art & Food
Launched in October 2023, Cultura is an annual celebration of music, art, and food proudly co-hosted by the Livingston Diversity Council and the Livingston Arts Council in downtown Howell, Michigan. Since its inception, the event has become a beloved community tradition and is now held each year on the last Saturday in September.
Cultura is free and open to the public, welcoming everyone to experience the richness of cultures from around the world. Each year, the event showcases culturally significant performances and experiences through visual art, spoken word, music, dance, and cuisine.
Visitors can enjoy performances on two stages, explore visual art displayed throughout the historic Howell Opera House, and savor a variety of delicious offerings from some of the area's favorite food truck vendors.
New this year, we are excited to welcome cultural vendors to the event! We have space for 12 vendors to showcase and sell culturally inspired artwork, handcrafted goods, and other unique items that celebrate the diverse traditions and cultures represented at Cultura. Become a Cultura Vendor

Michigan Folk Musicians Benefit Concert, Silent Auction & Food Drive

Howell Melon Social

Get ready to kick off Melon Season the right way at the Howell Melon Social on August 8th, starting at 6:00 PM!
This isn’t your typical fancy gala; it’s a fun-filled summer party with great food, live music, raffles, desserts, and plenty of laughs with friends and neighbors.
We’re bringing the energy all night long with Twilight Tunes Dueling Pianos, keeping everyone singing along, dancing, and grooving from start to finish.
Come hungry because C.C.’s Catering will be serving up an amazing dinner featuring roast beef & gravy, boneless chicken breast, lasagna, oven-roasted potatoes, green beans, and more. Plus, enjoy delicious desserts from a local bakery while you check out the awesome raffle baskets up for grabs throughout the evening.
We’ll also be proudly announcing this year’s Melon Court, a group of individuals who are true pillars of our community and help make Howell such a special place.

Gelli printing (also called gel plate printing) is a fun, easy form of monoprinting that uses a soft, flexible gel plate to create one-of-a-kind prints. It's popular with beginners, children, and professional artists because it doesn't require a printing press and produces beautiful, layered results.
Join art instructors Ms. Dianne May and Ms. Carol Elliott for four exciting afternoons of hands-on creativity as students explore the fascinating art of Gelli printing. Participants will experiment with textures, layers, patterns, and vibrant colors while creating unique, one-of-a-kind prints.
Participants can expect to experiment with color, layering, and texture while creating a collection of unique prints to take home. No prior art experience is needed, making it a great class for beginners.

With a nominal investment of $5 per person paid at the door, you learn the ancient Mahjong game (Chinese rules), have fun, and make new friends.
Mahjong sets will be available. We’d like to encourage you to bring your set in case we're short. Game rules/cheat sheet provided.
Cultura Connects: Taiwan
Brought to you by the co-hosts of Cultura: the Livingston Diversity Council and the Livingston Arts Council, Cultura Connects: Taiwan invites participants to explore the rich culture and traditions of Taiwan through food, art, and movement.
Food - Guests will enjoy a tasting experience featuring favorites such as General Tso’s chicken, pot stickers, bubble tea, and other Taiwanese-inspired dishes from TK Wu and Coco Fresh Tea & Juice in Ann Arbor
Art - The event will include a calligraphy demonstration and hands-on activities offering an opportunity to learn about these treasured artistic traditions.

* Discover Taiwan - cultural journey through maps, toys, and traditions.
Movement/Music - Performances will highlight the diverse cultural heritage of Taiwan through their distinctive sounds, movements, and storytelling.
